Dan Lin and Chris McKay talk The LEGO Movie Sequel

I et interview for at promovere The LEGO NINJAGO Movie, producers Dan Lin and Chris McKay have shared a little more information about The LEGO Movie Sequel. The LEGO Movie Sequel er den direkte opfølgning på den originale film fra 2014, der udkommer i februar 2019. In an interview with Collider, Lin confirmed that the key creatives from The LEGO Film er tilbage til sequek:

The team is all back together, so it’s [Phil] Lord and [Chris] Miller, myself and Chris McKay. Mike Mitchell is the new voice who’s coming in to direct the movie. Chris and Phil are rewriting the script right now, but we’re in production. We’re picking up where the first movie left us, where the Duplo have now come and they’re attacking Bricksburg. It’s several years later, and you’re going to see the result of that.

The Duplo invasion brings a new perspective to the narrative, as McKay explains:

The Duplo represents Finn’s sister, Finn being the little boy from the live-action. The Duplo is her. The man upstairs said, “You’ve gotta play with your sister. That’s the thing you’ve gotta promise me. I’ll let you play with my world, but now you’ve gotta let your sister come in and play with your world.” Now, she’s coming in, and that’s the major thing that the movie is about. What’s different and similar about gender, when a boy plays vs. how a girl plays? What kinds of stories are there? Chris and Phil are super fucking smart and really thoughtful and sensitive writers. The kinds of questions and the interesting ideas that they’re getting into with this movie, it’s going to be like the first LEGO Film var, hvor det handler om noget andet, der virkelig er dybtgående. Jeg er virkelig begejstret for, hvor filmen skal hen, fordi det handler om disse ting, der er faktiske forestillinger, som folk har, og som måske endda er ubevidste forstyrrelser, hvor folk ikke engang indser, at det er sådan, de ser på verden. McKay sælger bestemt det niveau af dybde, som fans kan forvente, det ville faktisk være tættere på det for The LEGO Film end mere formel Batman spin off. Lin bekræfter skiftet i fortællingen:

Hver eneste af vores film er hidtil blevet fortalt ud fra et barns fantasi. Det LEGO Film 2 vil være den første, der fortælles gennem to børns fantasi - Finn og hans søster. Det bliver virkelig interessant at sidestille disse to forskellige visioner.
